You Are Not Alone: Reflections on International Suicide Prevention Day

Today, on International Suicide Prevention Day, I want to share a deeply personal story—one that has shaped both my life and my purpose.

When I was 15, I faced a darkness so overwhelming that I came very close to ending my own life. Back then, the weight of my struggles—emotional pain, trauma, and feelings of isolation—felt unbearable. I believed I was alone, unheard, and that no one could truly understand.

Five years ago, I again found myself in an extremely vulnerable place, and the memories of that earlier time came rushing back. But through support, guidance, and the courage to reach out, I survived. That journey inspired me to dedicate myself to helping others navigate their own darkest moments. Since then, I have had the privilege of counselling and guiding people away from suicide, using accredited suicide intervention techniques. It’s a responsibility I hold close to my heart because I know firsthand how life can be restored with understanding, care, and timely support.

You are not alone. Many people silently struggle with thoughts of suicide, and the pain they carry is very real. Mental health challenges, trauma, overwhelming stress, or a sense of hopelessness can lead anyone to feel trapped—but there is hope, and there is help.

Suicide intervention is critical. Early intervention saves lives. Reaching out—whether to a trained professional, a friend, a family member, or a helpline—can make all the difference. If you are struggling or know someone who is, you can contact me directly for support. You can also reach out to these vital resources:

If you are in pain, please remember: your life is valuable, and help is available. You don’t have to face this alone. Sharing your feelings, seeking guidance, and connecting with someone who understands can save your life.

Today, let’s break the silence, extend compassion, and foster communities where it is safe to share struggles. Together, we can turn despair into hope—and remind every person that they are not alone, and their life truly matters.
